Birthdays in the Forest of Dean

Slow mornings, good company, and making something meaningful. This is how to spend a Perfect Birthday Weekend in the Forest of Dean
There’s something I’ve noticed over the years… the best birthdays aren’t always the big, busy ones. They’re the ones where you get to properly relax, spend time with people you love, and do something that actually feels special.
That’s exactly why so many women choose the Forest of Dean for a birthday weekend.
It’s not about rushing around—it’s about slowing down. A cosy place to stay, a hot tub under the stars, good food, long chats… and maybe trying something a little different together.
Why I Love the Forest of Dean for Birthdays
I’m lucky enough to run my jewellery workshops here, and I still don’t take it for granted. There’s a calmness to the forest that you feel straight away.
Most of the groups I welcome are celebrating something—a birthday, a big milestone, or simply time together. And what they’re usually looking for is the same thing:
Space to unwind
Somewhere beautiful but not crowded
Time to properly catch up
A weekend that feels a bit special, but still relaxed
Places like Coleford, Parkend, and Lydbrook are perfect for this—quiet, scenic, and close to everything without feeling busy.
Where You Stay Really Matters
So many of my guests tell me the same thing—they’ve booked a beautiful cabin or lodge with a hot tub, and that becomes the heart of the whole weekend.
Mornings tend to be slow… coffee, maybe a walk.
Evenings are for the hot tub, a glass of wine, and lots of laughter.
It’s those simple moments that people remember most.
My Jewellery Workshops, and Why People Book Them for Birthdays!
This is the part where I come in 😊
I run small, relaxed jewellery making workshops here in the Forest of Dean, and they’ve become a really lovely way for groups to celebrate birthdays.
It’s just me teaching, so everything is very personal and unhurried. No big groups, no pressure—just a warm, welcoming space where you can sit, chat, and create something of your own.
What I love most about these sessions:
Everyone makes something completely unique
There’s always lots of chatting and laughter
You don’t need to be “creative” to enjoy it
You leave with a piece of jewellery that actually means something
Quite often, the birthday person ends up with something made by their friends—or a piece that marks the occasion—and that’s really special to be part of.
If you’ve been looking for a creative birthday idea in the Forest of Dean, this is exactly the kind of experience people don’t expect—but end up loving.
Gentle Things to Do Nearby
Most weekends aren’t packed with plans, but there are a few places I always recommend if you fancy getting out for a bit:
Puzzlewood – it’s a bit magical, and lovely for a wander
Symonds Yat Rock – one of the best views in the area
Cannop Ponds – peaceful, easy walking, and great for a catch-up stroll
Nothing too strenuous—just enough to enjoy the surroundings.
My Go-To Places to Eat
Food is always a big part of a birthday weekend, and there are some really lovely, relaxed places nearby that are perfect for groups.
A few favourites my guests often visit:
* The Ostrich Inn – cosy, welcoming, and great for a proper meal
* The Speech House – a beautiful setting right in the forest
* The Saracens Head Inn – right by the river, especially nice if the weather’s good
And for something more casual:
* Hips Social or Hips at the Docs - Great coffee and cake
* Woodlands Coffee Shop – coffee, cake, and a relaxed stop during the day
The Bit Everyone Talks About Afterwards
It’s funny—when people leave, they don’t usually talk about one big “highlight”.
It’s the little things:
Sitting in the hot tub in the evening
Laughing over dinner
Taking their time over the workshop
Having a whole weekend where no one is rushing anywhere
That’s what makes it feel like a proper birthday.
If You’re Planning Something Special…
If you’re thinking about a birthday weekend in the Forest of Dean and want something a bit more personal and meaningful, I’d genuinely love to be part of it.
My jewellery making workshops are small, friendly, and designed to fit around your weekend—not take it over.
It’s just a few hours of slowing down, being creative, and spending time together… and you leave with something to remember it by.
And honestly, those are the kinds of birthdays that stay with you.
