Hi all thats me, Sarah in the above photo. When you book onto a Wye-Creative Jewellery Workshop you will be welcomed into the studio by myself. I currently run all of the classes at Wye-Creative, as this is my own tiny busniess.

Once you have hung up your coats and bags, and put on an apron, you will be offered a drink. I always have tea, coffee and water avaliable, as well as herbal teas and hot chocolate. I have cows milk avaliable as well as oat milk. While we wait for other students to arrive, you will have the chance to look around the workshop at all the tools, and ask any questions.

Once everyone has arrived and picked their seat, I will intorduce what we will be making that day. I get everyone familiar with the materials as well as the tools that we will be using that day and show examples if people need ideas. We will talk though the types of silver, we will use, such as profile and size, as well as how the tools can be used to create different textures. Once you have picked your materials, and come to me with an ideas that you have, we will start making some jewellery!

Next we find your ring size, I will explain how to find a size that isnt too big or too small. I will then explain how we find the size in 'mm' for your ring, this does include a little bit of maths (I know!), but I promise that you its not that hard, and that you did have a reason to learn π (pi) all those years ago! After that we will cut your wire to size, and texture the silver however you would like, you will be supplied with a piece of copper to practce on first.

Once the silver is textured, we start to bend the wire into a circle where we will solder the join. But first a treat, scones, cakes or something sweet, and of course a tea.

After the treats, we carry on to solder the join of the ring together. I will be there to support you though each step of soldering. This is usually a time for lots of questions, so please just ask away.

Once the rings are soldered, we will bash them with a soft hammer on a metal ring mandrel. This make your ring a round shape so that it will fit on your finger. You will then be taught how to sand and polish your silver, using a range of sand papers and the polishing machine.

Once you have finished you ring it is usually about 1pm. You are welcome to stay and ask any questons or if you need to rush off thats also fine.

I always aim for my classes to be fun and relaxed, I try to be as supportive with each student as they need me to be, but allow you the freedom to make a special ring unique to you.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about a typical day of making a silver ring. If you are looking to join me in a class, click the link below to find a date that suits you.
